Black Out??

Life on Earth would not exist without the sun, but could the powerful ball of gas become a major harm to life on Earth? In 1859 a major solar storm knocked out most of the telegram lines in America, and another major solar storm could happen in the near future. The sun can release strong magnetic storms that could mess up our satellites, and even disturb the communication system on Earth. Although this major solar storm is rare, scientists are expecting the next peak in solar activity to happen in 2012.

If this solar storm was to happen it would greatly devastate the planet for a while. I believe that if this storm is to happen it will cause more chaos than hurricane Katrina. While that storm caused major issues in the southern United States, the solar storm would cause country and world wide issues. We have to learn as much as we can about these storms and what they could do to our Earth, so if it happens we will be prepared. Also, if we learn what happened, in detail, during major solar storm in 1859 it will be easier to keep our world safer for the next storm.
